Milo Shandel was born in 1969 in Vancouver, British Columbia to Pia Shandel, an actress, and Tom Shandel, a film-maker. While attending high school at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island, he began to channel his naturally hammy tendencies by appearing in productions directed by the late T. Gil Bunch, the greatest influence in Milo’s artistic life. Productions included, Hello Dolly!, The Boy Friend, and The Fantasticks, as ‘El Gallo’, a production that was sadly never completely mounted. Bunch taught Milo the value of discipline, stillness, and respect for the text. His brilliant teaching lives on in former students such as Geoffrey Bowes, Dion Luther, and Kevin Hare.

Milo spent one year at the University of British Columbia, where he appeared in a production of Merrily We Roll Along!, in the role of ‘Charlie’. Interestingly enough, it was originally to have been directed by the renowned music theatre performer, Bruce Dow. Milo also had a weekly radio show on CITR FM 102 called ‘For No Apparent Reason’, that combined two of his loves: sketch comedy and alternative music.

After the year at UBC, Milo moved to Toronto, Ontario to attend Ryerson Theatre School. It was here that he met his future wife Christine Oddy (Mamma Mia!, Claptrap), also from Vancouver. While at Ryerson, some of Milo’s classmates included Broadway actor Jeffrey Kuhn (Monty Python's Spamalot, Assassins, Ragtime, Wicked), TV, film and voice-over actor Stephen Bogaert (American Psycho, Playmakers), and X-Men and Scorpion King Screenwriter David Hayter. Milo played ‘Cinderella’s Prince’ in the acclaimed Ryerson production of Into The Woods, as well as featuring in Museum, and Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. Milo was fortunate to be able to work with theatre artists such as Bob Baker, Kelly Robinson, Peter Hinton, and Tom Wood while at Ryerson.

Since embarking on his professional career, Milo has appeared on stages across Canada, The United States, and Mexico in shows such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, Six Degrees of Separation, Tartuffe, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!, The House of Martin Guerre, Napoleon, Forbidden Holllywood!, Forbidden Broadway Strikes Back!. Milo also spent time at the Stratford festival where he appeared in Macbeth, Amadeus starring Brian Bedford, and The Merry Wives of Windsor, starring Canadian theatre legend, William Hutt. Additionally, he has produced shows at the Toronto Fringe festival (Altarpieces), Summerworks (Creep Crush), and directed shows for Disney Cruise Line.

Milo most recently has been touring the United States, Canada, and Mexico playing the role of ‘Bill Austin’, the 'Awesome Aussie' in the smash-hit ABBA musical, Mamma Mia!

On a personal note, he and Christine welcomed son Hagan into the world on January 20, 2006.
